The rescored soundtrack for the animation of the same name by Perpignan-based IDEM Creative Arts School. It represents the first score by Étri for symphonic orchestra to be played live. BLUE is a carefully crafted package of textures and eclectic soundscapes condensed in 3min30. Estimated publish date will be late May or June 2025.
Overall, the insanity, elusiveness and wackiness of the protagonist is underlined by the unique techniques, as well as the scale and intimidating factor of the celestial objects. The score is predominantly contemporary and expressionist, but also draws from impressionist orchestras. The harmonies are often inspired by early 20th-century modernism. Uncommon scoring and playing techniques are highlighted not only to create indistinguishable soundscapes, but also to paint the ambiguity and grounded otherwordliness of the animation.
The score will be performed on January 15th, 2027 by the C3/CPES symphonic orchestra of the Perpignan Music Conservatory, and directed by Mehdi Lougraïda.
The tickets can be acquired usually roughly a month before the performance, so prepare yourselves to book your seats before they're gone for good!
So as to ensure a spotless performance, Étri Fournié worked in tandem with the conductor of the orchestra, Mehdi Lougraïda, as well as the musicians. Étri consulted Jade Grimaud, Alexis Lagoutte, Samuel Lafforgue, Eva Boutemy, Maria Nimubona, Marie Croza, as well as former members Lubin Almeida-Evrard and Morgan Mira for appropriate feedback. The score was proofread by orchestrators Stefan Stetic and Eric Domenech.
The orchestra features cello-heavy strings, oboe and cor anglais and otherwise triple woodwinds, two horns and an alto saxophone, three trumpets, two tenor and one bass trombones, a tuba, a piano and celesta, timpani, tuned and untuned percussion, and harp.
